Special Things to See & Do
Remember, Neighbor – If you’re fixin’ to go, it’s best to know!
Be sure to do a quick double-check with the event itself about its details before you head out.
We try to keep our event posts accurate and updated, but you know sometimes things change last minute.
Mother’s Day Tea Party - SOLD OUT
You’ve probably had yourself some sweet Southern tea, which is a staple. But have you had a glass of hot frothy sweet Moroccan mint? Iced lemongrass hibiscus? Or slippery elm cocoa citrus?
MVL’s is throwing a tea party at the historic Turlington House where you’ll sample different teas from around the world, as well as herbal and fruit infusions called tisane. You’ll create three different custom blends of your own to take home and enjoy in any season. Of course any good Southern tea party wouldn’t leave you hungry! Enjoy a spread of cucumber sandwiches, smokey devilled eggs, apricot thyme shortbread, lemon tarts and other delights with your tea. If you’re feeling fancy, bring a hat!
Tea Up!
Our second and final tour of teas from around the world!

Mooresville Spinners Opening Night!
AI is stupid. I spent, like, 10 whole minutes trying to get it to make me a photo of an owl wearing fishnet stockings and lipstick, being strangled by a bolt of thick cotton thread with a strong, evil aura. This is the best I got back. So you’ll have to go watch the Mooresville Spinners choke out the Statesville Owls in person.
Swim in a Crazy Beautiful Quarry. At a Crazy Great Southern Farm.
If you haven’t been yet, know this – when you get to this swimmin’ hole you’ll say to yourself, “How is this here?!”. The Carrigans run a 5 generation family farm, so not only will you enjoy a beautiful day of sun and swim, you’ll also enjoy delicious fare grown and prepared right there on the farm. If you see a charming older guy working the grills (he’ll be very, very red), that’s Doug Carrigan. Tell him MVL said, “HI”! :-)
Neighbor, you MUST make advance rezzies! Also, check out their FAQ :-)
OMG, The Liberty Antique Festival!!!! (Fall Edition)
Did you go to the Spring one in April? Then you know you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful way to spend the day than out in the middle of nowhere in a field looking into tent after tent full of antique gems. Remember Metrolina? This is the cute version of that! Seriously, this is one of our favorite Southern things to do and you will likely see us there. Wear your MVL hat so we can spot you! Tickets are $10 (it’s worth it) and there’s an ATM in the field somehow if you forgot cash. Here’s more info.
Climb Aboard a Real B-29!
This is pretty cool. This guy found a B-29 rotting away in the desert and totally restored it! Looks beautiful, don’t it? Take a closer look at the Statesville Airport. Ground and cockpit tour tickets will be available for purchase on the days of the event at the gate. While the aircraft is on the ground, visitors will be able to climb inside the cockpit through the forward bomb bay to ge a look inside one of only two B-29 Superfortresses still airworthy and flying today. More info here.

Let’s Try This Again.
For some mysterious reason, Mooresville Day (created to celebrate Mooresville’s founding in March of 18-something-something) was pushed back a month to April. The date has changed but the theme of “we’re renting every carnival gimmick we can to celebrate something we call Mooresville Day” hasn’t.
Take all of four hours to watch how the Town of Mooresville celebrates itself! They say they’ll have “ a kaleidoscope of art” and “an array of the best cuisine from local food trucks”! They also “promise to keep the atmosphere lively and engaging”!
Destroy the Evidence Day Hosted by the Mooresville Police Department
We’re only kind of joking. The Mooresville Police Department IS hosting a Free Shred Event in their parking lot where they will help you dispose of, in the presence of witnesses, any old bills, bank statements, and “any other unwanted documents containing personal information.” We assumed that was open to interpretation. Wait, what if it’s a cool sting operation!? Oh, man, we’re totally checking this out!
Fayetteville Dogwood Festival
46 years they’ve been throwing this festival and we’re just getting wind of it now? It sounds lovely! From their site:
The 2024 festival brings extraordinary entertainment, activities the entire family will enjoy, astonishing food, and classic community favorites to Downtown Fayetteville.
On a weird side note, the festival is presented by White Claw Seltzer, which I can’t figure out how they got that to happen since White Claw is based in Chicago. Weird, right?
JoyFest Youth Explosion
Mooresville’s first gospel festival now has a youth version and it’s going to be amazing. Everyone’s welcome to come have their spirits lifted through song. The Youth Uplifting & Praising Team are coming up from Charlotte, and the Third Creek Baptist Youth Gospel Choir are coming from Stony Point to join Mooresville dance and choir groups. And yes, there WILL be face painting and food trucks and more!
Just Another Day in Huntersville.
Or, How many Scots does it take to stand up a light pole? Answer: One, if you’re man enough. Kidding aside, The Loch Norman Highland Games are always super fun to check out. From their site:
Scotland is the land of mountain wilderness known for its vibrant cultural scene. Wherever you go in Scotland, you can find the beat of a music festival, the adrenaline of an outdoor adventure, and the experience of a breathtaking culture. Scotland may be 3,646 miles away, but on April 20-21, 2024, you can hear the bagpipes roar at the Loch Norman Highland Games in Lake Norman.
Historic Rural Hill hosts an exciting array of events yearly to create a popular, family-friendly weekend that celebrates Scottish history and culture with unique entertainment. Take a few steps back in time with us to witness skilled Blacksmiths and a Wood Wright demonstrating their craft. Then, you can show off your skills through a hands-on experience where visitors can participate in rope making, candle dipping, and drill demonstrations.
Strawberry Fields Forever.
YAY! Spring is here! How do I know it’s for real? Because the Carrigan Farms strawberry-pickin’ season opens TODAY. If you’re new here, this is such a local seasonal treat (and high-up on our MVL list). Buy a 4-quart (or 1-quart) basket and fill it with the best strawberries you can find. The Carrigan’s have been doing this since the 70’s and they grow the best strawbs around. The only hard part? Picking the best from about 908,098,192 delicious contenders (MVL’s ballpark guestimate).
Pickin’ season peaks last week of April/first week of May and ends May 25. Come cute. It’s also a great photo opp!
Free Bluegrass Concert
Groove to live bluegrass by Coddle Creek, partake in some delicious food & drinks, and support efforts to provide Iredell County high school seniors who demonstrate consistent, persistent, and dedicated commitment to Arts and Service with impactful scholarship opportunities.
Never any need for concert tickets - is free and open to the public.
(Food and beverages available for purchase on-site.)
A Real Community Festival
What we love about the Mooresville’s Community Relations Committee’s first Spring Mosaic Festival is that it’s really just a community festival. Like, there's no other purpose than just getting Mooresville’s diverse neighbors together in Liberty Park to hang out and have fun together. There’ll be dance and music performances and food trucks, but also yoga lessons and a literature corner. Sounds just lovely.
Hunt Up Some Food & Brews.
Get a jump on Mooresville Day, by checking out Huntersville’s Food + Brews Street Festival. Why isn’t “Food” plural? I mean, will there only be one food truck? There will be food trucks (plural), breweries (plural), vendors, a kid zone (singular kid), and live music (singular).
You Probably Already Know About This.
If you don’t, you definitely don’t have a booth at the 3rd Inner Vision Psychic Fair. You’ll get to meet a whole host of Psychics, Mediums, Astrologers, Spiritual Guides, Intuitive card readers and Human Design Consultants. And they’ll be doing mini readings! Sounds like a blast. No matter what your psychic abilities are, you know where we’ll be March 23. Tickets here
Talented Young People Playing Old Dead People Music!
This (literally and figuratively) sounds amazing. The CYO (Cornelius Youth Orchestras) is a thing we’re just now hearing about and they’re having a concert here in Mooresville. If you’re a musician, or have kids who play an instrument, please consider coming. You’ll be supporting these fine, young musicians, an excellent youth program, and inspiring your kids to keep the dream alive (and keep practicing, DARNIT!). Tickets here
"When It Rains, It Fills."
That’s the saying, right? Well it is if you’re using rain barrels to collect all that free water falling from the sky. If you don’t have a rain barrel, or any idea of what I’m talking about, you need to attend the Rain Barrel Workshop in Bellingham Park. The Town of Mooresville’s awesome Stormwater Division will teach you how to assemble your rain barrel and show you the benefits of collecting stormwater. Register here!
Being Petty.
Our favorite Petty is STP Petty. I know, everyone loves the iconic I-got-this-cowboy-hat-on-a-trip-to-New-Mexico-in-1985 Richard Petty. But man. Look at the handsome mug on STP Petty! And that killer windbreaker! Anyway, thanks to our awesome Chamber of Commerce (we’re also big Kirk Ballard fans), we’ll all get a chance to celebrate Richard Petty at the 2024 Community Awards Lunch. And the keynote speaker? I’ve-been-doing-this-for-75-years Richard Petty.
Spend Some Quality Time Blonding with the Girls.
Like, are your blonding skills, like, totally lame? Omagah, we, like, totally found a class for you! The Ultimate Blonding Masterclass will show pros and students how to totally max out their techniques! It’s sure to be, like, a total blowout, so totally get your tickets here.
Put the CUTE in Charcuterie!
The Kings of Canary are hosting a charcuterie workshop with an expert from Something Bleu Charcuterie. Learn everything from what to include to how to include it! And if you haven’t been to King Canary Brewery, THAT’S a cute trip all in itself! More info and tickets here!
Some Like It Cold.
This sounds like fun. Oh, not for me. I’m much too sane to jump in a lake in February. But a lot of folks LOVE to play in the cold. If that’s you, register here for the 2024 Super Chill Paddle ‘n Plunge. There’s a handful of races for all skill types and a polar plunge for all mental types, not to mention live music, food trucks, et al. And it might warm your heart to know the event benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. :-) Again, details here.
A Drilling Adventure!
This MTEC training event caught our eye for a couple of reasons. First, doesn’t their graphic look like it should be a 90’s Beastie Boys album cover? That alone makes us want to go. Second, with all the manufacturing and race teams in this town, this has got to look as tantalizing as eating $14 fries from a truck in the middle of Main Street looks to other folks around here. Learn the “ins and outs” of all kinds of drilling – short hole, deep hole, boring hole, and our favorite, the helical interpolation of holes. All demonstrated in-person over three days. Go here to drill down into the details.
Same Ol' (Important) Routine.
This is cool. And important. So I’m just going to post the description from the organizer – the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children. :-)
Creating a school family begins the moment the children enter the room. From the way we greet them, to the way say goodbye, our classroom rituals play the biggest role in how children will respond throughout the day. What does it look like to be in a classroom that is developmentally appropriate and supports the growth of emotional intelligence? How do we create an environment that is safe for children physically and emotionally? Join us for a 2 part series training as we set the stage for building a school family that can transform the lives of children, families, and teachers by using the principles of Dr. Becky Bailey, CSEFEL, and other social/emotional techniques. In part 1 of this 2-part series, we will explore the rituals that create safe spaces for children and families. In part 2, we will focus on how to respond to behaviors within the school family that we have built.
And it’s only $5! Get tickets here!
Fitness and Nutrition 101 (NOT at Big Tiny's!)
We thought it was funny that on Google, this event’s location seemed to be right smack dap in the most deliciously unhealthy of locale's. It’s not. But we recommend you eat at Big TIny’s BEFORE your short-but-healthy stroll to this event about eating and exercising right. Then strolling back to BT for some banana pudding.
MLK Day Walk & Breakfast
Mooresville’s Community Relations Committee is hosting a 30 min. peace walk followed by a free breakfast to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. You’ll also hear Pastor Bill Russell, Jr., speak on Dream Forward: A Day of Reflection and Action.
You’ll need tickets for the free breakfast and you can get ‘em here.
Lovely. Just Lovely.
Did you go to the King Canary Christmas Market to shop local this afternoon? Good. Now head over to the Mack Center to listen to some lovely locals play at the Free concert with Lake Norman Philharmonic. Reserve your seats here!
Shop Like a King.
King Canary Brewing is throwing a little Christmas Market full of local makers of gifts and delicious foods. Grab a delicious, locally made brew and have a blast.
A Classic Mooresville Christmas
Mooresville pulls out all the stops to deliver a Downtown Christmas you will honestly never forget. Ice skate on some kind of flooring! See a building lit up with a $25,000 projector! But whatever you do, be sure to drop in on the mom and pop restaurants and shops that’ll be so, so, so happy to help you make your Christmas really amazing. They’re the real stars of the night. :-)
Choose Your Own Eventure.
If this is the only event on this page, don’t despair. Just because there’s nothing popping nearby that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. In fact, it can be even more thrilling to make an event out of seeing something new. Drink water from a rural natural spring. Visit a real Amish market. Take a tour of honest to goodness country general stores. Let MVL be your guide to “Eventures” that are happening every day, just a Stones Throw away!
A Very Murray Christmas
MVL will have a spot at the absolutely STUNNING Southern Christmas market in the Murray’s Mill Historic District. Maybe you’ve read our Stone’s Throw article on Murray’s Mill, and if you’ve never been, this is great time to see it.
In short, Murray’s Mill is a 1913 WORKING grain mill with a general store. Seriously, your can buy grits milled there! So cool.
For the last 5 years, they’ve hosted a Southern Christmas Market filled with only the best local handcraft and food vendors. Oh, did we mention MVL will be there? We’ll have our signature Dogwood Blossom ornaments (sold out on Our State Magazine’s online store, but in plenty at this market). We’ll also have Dogwood necklaces and jewelry, unique woodcrafts, and some fun surprises!
Our Town's Christmas Parade! Yes, Before Thanksgiving!
And, YES, it’s on a Tuesday! AFTERNOON! OMG, this parade is the one of the best things about living in a small Southern town. We love that, in 1944, the citizens of Mooresville decided to throw their Christmas parade BEFORE Thanksgiving (again, on a weekday) to welcome the season and give their local Downtown shops a boost. WAY before Target, Amazon, et al.
FACT: The town parade IS NOT run by the town itself, but by a small (believe us, VERY small), group of fun citizens (yes, we’re 3 of them) who strive to keep the parade traditionally old-fashioned, and Southern-small-town-“Christmas Story”- Americana at it’s finest.
Charming? YES! Stale? NO! I mean, check out how they announce the season this year for goodness sake…
But that’s just the start. If you’re a fan of the underdog, come to the parade dressed in GREEN to support the Grinch. Love the OG Jelly Belly? Come in RED to support Santa. Here, this will explain…
So there you go. This parade is a local favorite and we helped make it easy to watch. Go to MooresvilleChristmasParade.com for all kinds of info including a handy downloadable PDF that makes getting to the parade, parking, watching, and loving the parade easier than ever. :-)
Time Travelers Delight
The Carolina Renaissance Festival is a great way to spend a day watching people stab each other without having to drive to a big city. Eat a giant turkey leg! Buy cool unique crafts for hard to impress people on your Christmas list! The falconry shows are our favorite thing, so don’t miss that. Get tickets online before you go, sometimes they sell out for the day.
Santa’s Seedy Workshop.
Brawley Seed Co. dropped a bevy of new craft workshops and they are SO fun. Check ‘em out (and sign up soon, they’re super popular!).
