See The Way It Used To Be Done. Better.

Being true fans of Southern grits, one of our first local day trips was to Murray’s Mill in Catawba County. Just a stone’s throw from Mooresville, Murray’s Mill is an historic water-powered grain mill that still churns out stone ground corn grits the old fashioned way. There’s nothing like seeing the twenty-eight-foot water wheel turn the massive grinding stones, generating enough pressure to pound out the most perfect corn meal. Call ahead to arrange a guided tour, and bring along your history-loving friends.

Across the road is the Murray & Minges General Store where you can grab some candy and cold drinks for your photo-worthy picnic on the lawn by the original John Murray house (1913). No need to be in any kind of rush here. Good things take time.
