Southern Learning Series: Putting Up Peaches - August 11th, 2024

- Ages 12 + welcome
- Classes are limited to 6 people
- Dress comfortably, as it can get warm in the kitchen

We’re canning up our favorite drippy summertime fruit, Carolina peaches! Learn the difference between cling and freestone, and how to preserve their juicy goodness to enjoy all year long. State and Country Fair ribbon winner, Kelly Sopp, will teach you basic water bath canning techniques for high acid fruits. Take home two quarts of peaches preserved any way you like… bourbon, sweet, or pickled! A peachy themed lunch is provided while your jars process.

Parking:
There are a few spots in the driveway, and there is street parking on the West side of the street (across from the Turlington House).

Note:
The class involves supervised knife handling (for preparing ingredients) and the handling of hot jars and liquids. Participation is voluntary and at your own risk. We will be standing quite a bit, but stools are provided. We follow safe canning practices, and you will be given resources for information on food preservation to take home. We are not responsible for improper storage of your canned goods, or what happens in your own kitchen.

We may also snap a few pictures or short clips of video during class to promote future classes. By attending, you give us permission to do so. If you are highly opposed, just let us know before we get started.
