I love a good country store. So imagine my delight when a young, enthusiastic butcher educated me on the finer points of hickory smoked bacon as he leaned against a glass refrigerator full of Sundrop and Cheerwine soda. Steven was born and raised here, and no one could be better qualified to usher the old southern traditions to a new generation of locals. If you get there in time (they open at 8:00am), you can grab yourself a hot sausage, bacon, country ham or pork chop biscuit. And don’t forget to pick up a jar of chow chow and some pickled peaches to mail to your city slicker friends.
